Who is Jermaine Franklin?
Known as the '989 Assassin', Jermaine Franklin is an American heavyweight from Saginaw, Michigan. Standing 6"2, he brings a record of 21 wins, 14 KOs and 1 loss from his 22 pro bouts.
This is only his second fight outside the US however, having lost a hard-fought majority decision to Joshua's long-time domestic rival, Dillian Whyte, in November 2022.
What happened to Anthony Joshua?
Anthony Joshua fights Franklin this April as he plots a course back to the top of the heavyweight game. 6 immaculate years as a pro, that delivered a unified world champion, were brutaly shattered in a shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.
Whilst that result was swiftly avenged, Oleksandr Usyk's unprecedented rise from cruiserweight stopped his reboot dead in its tracks. The Ukranian great outboxed Joshua twice leaving him facing down the barrel of 3 defeats in his last 4 fights. Despite a glittering career with plenty of his prime years ahead of him, a win here is a must if AJ is to remain a serious prospect in the brutal heavyweight division that continues to bubble with talent.
